DAY 1

BANSKA STIAVNICA

After 2 hours of scenic drive crossing the rolling Danube plains, we’ll enter one of the most beautiful Slovak towns – Banska Stiavnica. It is like stepping into past centuries. Get an overview of the rich history of this town connected with the mining of copper, silver and gold. Visit the Old castle – a majestic fortress, 16th century New Castle, the heart of the Old town and the Holy Trinity Square with beautiful sights such as the gothic 15th century St. Catherine Church, admire renaissance buildings and the baroque Holy Trinity column. Tasty lunch break at the restaurant Monarchia (home-made specialties) or enjoy lunch and famous beer at the restaurant ERB (microbrewery and fine dining). Free time to relax.

DAY 2

HRONSEK WOODEN CHURCH AND VLKOLINEC VILLAGE

We’ll drive to see a hidden jewel, the wooden articular church Hronsek. Afterwards, we’ll drive through the mountain pass Donovaly and enter the mountain village Vlkolinec, a remarkably intact settlement with the traditional features of a central European village. It is the region’s most complete group of these kinds of traditional log houses, often found in mountainous areas. Great opportunity to try samples of honey wine (mead), from local wine makers. Go back in time and see how people used to live two centuries ago. Visit of a little square, baroque chapel, wooden belfry and folk museum showing all the instruments of daily life and work. Continue to Levoca and free time to relax.

DAY 3

LEVOCA & SPISS CASTLE

We’ll start a day with a short sightseeing tour in Levoca. It is undoubtedly a cultural and historical jewel among Slovak towns. Enter the Roman-Catholic church of St. James from the 14th century with its tallest wooden wing gothic altar in the world, a masterpiece by Master Paul of Levoca.

Another gem is just few minutes by car, the Spiss Castle. On a dolomite rock, there is one of the most precious cultural monuments in the Spis region – the Spis castle. It is not just an evidence of architectural development from the 12th to the 18th century – it is also one of the largest castle ruins in the Central Europe. Stop in Zehra Church famous for its fresco Tree of life. Further we visit Spisska Kapitula, also known as “Slovak Vatikan” and enter into the Cathedral of St. Martin. Free time and relax in Levoca.

DAY 4

OCHTINSKA ARAGONITOVA CAVE AND DOBSINSKA ICE CAVE

We’ll visit the Ochtinska Aragonitova cave which creates a unique natural phenomenon as there are only 3 such caves in the entire world (Slovakia, Mexico and Argentine). Admire variety and abundance of aragonite filling and a rare development of underground space.

Another special cave is the Dobsinska Ice cave which belongs amont the most important ice caves in the world.

DAY 5

KOSICE CITY

We’ll start a day with the Quality Sightseeing Walking Tour around the spectacular, historical Old Town of Kosice. It is a city with an eventful and illustrious past.


Visit of St. Elizabeth’s Cathedral, considered to be one of the most beautiful gothic structures in the world, St. Michael’s Chapel, the State Theatre, St. Urbain’s Tower. See Jesuit and Franciscan churches as well as lane of arts and crafts, similar to Golden lane in Prague, but definitely with less tourists, more authentic and worth to visit.

DAY 6

NP POLONINY and WOODEN CHURCHES

Drive to Snina – a gate to the originally volcanic Vihorlat protected landscape area and the National Park of Poloniny.

North-eastern part of Slovakia is a land of wooden churches, let’s discover them– the Greek Catholic wooden church of St Nicolas in Bodruzal, built in 1658. The log building consists of three parts with three little towers and the Greek Catholic wooden church of St Michael the Archangel in a village Ladomirova, built in 1742 without a single metal nail.

DAY 7

BARDEJOV TOWN AND HERVARTOV CHURCH

Quality sightseeing tour in the heart of Bardejov town to see the highlights – Town Hall’s square, gothic St. Egidius church, climb the church tower with its fantastic view of the former fortification walls around the city.

Time to discover the fabulous Saris region, we‘ll drive to the village Hervartov to see the unique wooden Roman-Catholic church of St. Francis of Assisi from the 15th century. Our exploration will continue with Bardejov Spa – trying the healing water. It was a place where prominent European rulers and personalities spent some time, among the most famous belong the empress Elisabeth, known as Sissi. Try the healing water from eight springs. Next to the Spa resort there is one of the oldest open-air museum in Slovakia. Let’s go back to the life of the 19th-20th century of the Slovaks and Rusyns. Walk into the houses of peasants, middle class, mayor’s house, then we‘ll come back to Bardejov for the walking tour.

DAY 8

BRATISLAVA QUALITY SIGHTSEEING TOUR

Earlier start (8am) and drive to Bratislava. Lunch break on the way and start in Bratislava with a Quality Walking Tour to see the highlights of the Old Town. The Hviezdoslav Square, a prominent 18th century square surrounded by stunning palaces, the Slovak National Theatre and the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra, visit the St. Martin’s Cathedral – the coronation place of 18 rulers, including famous Austro-Hungarian empress Maria Theresa; we stroll on medieval streets such as Panska and Venturska where famous music composers studied or gave concerts, such as W. A. Mozart, F. Liszt, L. Beethoven, and admire the only preserved town entrance – St. Michael’s Gate. Walking through the main square, admire the beautiful former Old Town Hall and Maximilian Fountain, the Primate’s Palace (outside) – the largest in Bratislava. Enough free time for taking pictures and enjoying the atmosphere.
